I wrote an academic research paper during my studies at Rutgers University as a graduate student about the racial messages that are displayed through cosmetic campaigns. I critiqued the racial and ethnic messages that women of color can perceive while viewing cosmetic advertisements. I also conducted a survey given to women of color asking how they felt about cosmetic products not being marketed to women of color.

According the survey, over half of the respondents have a hard time finding cosmetic products that match their skin tone. I also analyzed different campaigns from different cosmetic companies, and discussed the changes that the cosmetic industry has made to try and implement more women of color in their advertising.
